New London County resident Tramyer Williams, 47, of Griswold, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 21, and charged with first-degree sexual assault, Connecticut State Police said. He is being held on a $500,000 bond, according to court records.
The woman contacted police on Sept. 30, 2023, to report that a man she knew through friends had sexually assaulted her the night before at a Windham County boat landing on Butts Bridge Road in Canterbury, police said.
The Jewett City woman explained that she and Williams had been out with friends and wound up alone at the end of the night.
As they talked about their lives, she said Williams leaned in to kiss her, but she wasn't interested. That's when she said Williams grabbed her and raped her in the car, according to the police report.
Officers noticed bruising on her during the interview.
The woman had not washed her clothes from the night before or showered. Investigators were able to get physical evidence, including DNA that matched Williams, police said.
Williams was being held on an unrelated charge when he was arrested and charged with the rape.
